Samsung September Patch Brings New Features

Samsung has begun rolling out its September security patch for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 in South Korea, introducing notable new features alongside critical security fixes. The update enhances the Now Bar with Google Finance integration, allowing users to monitor significant stock price changes directly from their lock screen without unlocking their device. Additionally, Samsung DeX receives a significant upgrade by enabling users to add widgets from „any app” to the home screen, including functional elements like calendars and clocks or decorative images, improving the desktop-like experience for foldable users.

On the security front, the September patch addresses two critical vulnerabilities highlighted in Google’s Android Security Bulletin. One fix targets an Android System issue (CVE-2025-48539), while the other resolves a Qualcomm closed-source component vulnerability (CVE-2025-27034). These updates are part of a broader set of „High” level security fixes, ensuring enhanced protection for Samsung’s latest foldables. The rollout is expected to expand to more regions throughout the week, with potential availability in the U.S. by the end of the week, following Samsung’s typical update pattern starting in its home market.

The Galaxy Z Fold 7’s popularity has influenced Samsung’s production strategy, with reports indicating an increase in planned units from 200,000 to 260,000 for September. This surge in demand marks a shift from previous trends, where the Flip model typically dominated pre-orders; the Fold 7 now accounts for 60% of pre-orders, underscoring its market appeal. As the update reaches more devices, including older models and the anticipated Galaxy S25 series, users can expect these new features and security enhancements to further refine the foldable experience.
