**2027 BMW iX4 (NA7): Pricing, Range, Production, and What the Neue Klasse Coupe-SUV Means for BMW**
The 2027 BMW iX4 (NA7) is the second Neue Klasse model to be built at BMW’s Debrecen plant in Hungary, following the iX3 into series production. BMW released the first photos of the iX4 being assembled in Debrecen just a day after the electric coupe-SUV’s world premiere, confirming the plant’s growing role in the automaker’s next-generation EV lineup. The iX4 goes on sale in March 2027, with the US-market iX4 50 xDrive starting at $66,200 before destination charges. In Germany, the range opens at €70,900 for the iX4 40 xDrive—roughly €5,000 more than the equivalent iX3—while the high-performance iX4 M60 xDrive also enters production in March 2027 and reaches showrooms later in the year. The launch marks a significant shift for BMW: both previous X4 generations, the F26 and G02, were built at Spartanburg, South Carolina, but every US-market iX4 will now be shipped from Hungary, as BMW has no plans to build the electric X4 in Spartanburg or at its San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico.
**Performance, Range, and Efficiency: How the iX4 Compares to the iX3**
Mechanically, the iX4 is essentially an iX3 with a lower, sloping coupe roofline—and that roofline pays off. Its drag coefficient is 0.23, slightly better than the iX3’s 0.24, which helps the iX4 50 xDrive achieve up to 828 km (514 miles) of provisional WLTP range, 22 km more than the iX3 50 xDrive. Three versions will be offered at launch: the iX4 40 xDrive with 275 kW (369 hp), 520 Nm (384 lb-ft), a 0-62 mph time of 5.6 seconds, and up to 638 km (396 miles) of WLTP range; the iX4 50 xDrive with 345 kW (463 hp), 645 Nm (476 lb-ft), 0-62 mph in 4.9 seconds, and up to 828 km (514 miles); and the iX4 M60 xDrive with 450 kW (603 hp), 875 Nm (645 lb-ft), 0-62 mph in 3.9 seconds, and up to 777 km (483 miles). DC fast charging peaks at 400 kW on the 50 xDrive and M60, and 300 kW on the 40 xDrive. The coupe styling does cost some practicality—the iX4 holds 490 liters of luggage space behind the rear seats, 30 liters less than the iX3—and US EPA range figures will come in lower than the WLTP ratings once official testing is complete.
**Debrecen’s Capacity Challenge: Three Shifts, Two Models, No Spare Hours**
The iX4 arrives at a plant that has been running flat out since it began series production of the iX3 in late October 2025. More than 100,000 European iX3 orders pushed BMW to bring the second shift forward to early 2026, just months into production, and then to switch Debrecen to a three-shift pattern in September so the line now runs 24 hours a day. The iX4 shares its platform and Gen6 drivetrain hardware with the iX3, so it should slot onto the existing lines more easily than a model with different underpinnings—but shared parts don’t add hours to the day, and Debrecen is already using all 24 of them. BMW hasn’t said how it will split output between the two models, or whether iX3 delivery times will stretch once the iX4 ramps up, leaving open questions about how the plant will balance demand for both vehicles on the same round-the-clock schedule. The harder test comes in March 2027, when iX4 deliveries begin and the iX4 M60 joins the line, meaning Debrecen will be building two body styles—each with its own M60 variant—simultaneously.
**A €2 Billion iFactory Built for the Neue Klasse Era**
Debrecen covers more than 400 hectares (about 990 acres) and represents roughly €2 billion of investment, built around BMW’s iFactory approach with heavy automation, digital planning, and on-site assembly of Gen6 high-voltage batteries. BMW says it is the group’s first vehicle plant to run entirely on renewable electricity during normal operation, with rooftop solar panels supplying part of that power and surplus solar energy feeding into a large thermal storage system. The plant’s ability to absorb the iX4 alongside the iX3 without additional capacity will be a key test of both the iFactory concept and BMW’s Neue Klasse rollout strategy, as the company looks to scale next-generation EVs across multiple body styles and markets from a single, highly automated production site.
