Chat Pile Returns With New Album Who Loves the Sun

Oklahoma noise-rock band Chat Pile is set to release a new album titled *Who Loves the Sun*, following their 2024 LP *Cool World* and their collaborative project with Hayden Pedigo, *In the Earth Again*. The album’s title is a nod to the Velvet Underground’s 1970 song, though the band notes it’s „not in any profoundly meaningful way.” The lead single, „Deep Blue,” is accompanied by a music video depicting eerie events in a macabre barbershop. The album is described by vocalist Ray B. as focusing on grievances with the modern world, addressing topics like AI, genocide, climate change, and wealth inequality. He also mentions pushing his vocal abilities further, drawing inspiration from Boston’s Brad Delp for layered vocals.

Bassist Stin elaborates that *Who Loves the Sun* grapples with maintaining humanity in an era of extreme anti-humanity, with „Deep Blue” setting the album’s tone. He humorously compares the track to a Billy Squire song, calling it their version of „Lonely Is the Night,” which he notes is actually a fake Led Zeppelin song. The album’s tracklist includes songs like „Creature,” „Same Rules,” „PEN I S MALL,” and „October All the Time,” reflecting the band’s signature blend of noise-rock and thematic darkness.

Chat Pile is currently touring Australia and New Zealand, with upcoming North American dates planned for later in the year. The tour includes stops at major festivals like Riot Fest and Sonic Blast, as well as headlining shows across the U.S. and Europe. Support acts for various dates include Ragana, Soul Glo, Prize Horse, Virga, and Shallowater. The band’s extensive touring schedule underscores their growing presence in the underground rock scene.
